Celebrity in America

Vanity Fair puts Jessica Simpson on the cover to symbolize celebrity in America. Why?
“She’s at a crossroads in her career,” said Beth Kseniak, Vanity Fair’s director of public relations. “Where she’s headed — or not — says a lot about the nature of celebrity in America. And she looks pretty decent in a swimsuit, contrary to recent reports.”
That last is probably the best reason. But it is the best reason to put her in Sports Illustrated.
Why is Simpson on Vanity Fair cover?
Perhaps Jessica Simpson does embody how foolish, arbitrary and inconstant celebrity status in America - anywhere - is.
That her body will help sell copies might be another reason for selecting her.
