Maja for Wonderbra

» Fashion

Wonderbra model Maja halted traffic as she stood in front of the Times Square billboard debuting her as the latest Wonderbra woman. The billboard mysteriously said Yes they are, thank you (real?)

Isn’t American popular culture wonderfully inclusive? Well, aren’t capitalists wonderfully absorbing.

The only bra ad I remember starred Jayne Russell. Can’t remember the bra but you can’t forget the woman.

When Wonderbra made its U.S. debut in New York in 1994, it sold at a rate of one Wonderbra every fifteen seconds. It immediately fueled a push-up bra craze across the country, with stores rapidly facing product sell-outs. Wonderbra was named one of the Top-Ten Products of the Year by more than a dozen news organizations and received a Special Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) “for creating a phenomenon never before experienced in this industry.”

It soon became a pop culture icon, playing a role in countless late night TV monologues, a number of movie and TV scripts, a New Yorker cartoon and even a New York Times crossword puzzle clue.

“Ten years after becoming a pop culture phenomenon, Wonderbra is continuing its mission of empowering women to feel sexy and confident with cleavage-enhancing products,” said Ridgway-Cross. “We’re providing amazing cleavage to women without an extreme makeover.”

How do you feel?

Feel free to share your feelings about Maja for Wonderbra. Please stick to the theme of the entry. Disagreement is fine. Homophobia, racism, and kindred expressions of hatred will be deleted. This site is one of my hobbies. I genuinely enjoy hearing from people and hate moderating or killing comments. Forthright disagreement is fine as long as it is civil.
My thanks,
Richard
