Metrosexuality hits India:
“The radical shift in society’s attitude to sexuality and gender issues allows men to do what they want today. The fact that a growing number of men are in touch with their feminine side shows a degree of evolvement. People in showbiz and glamour have adopted this kind of a lifestyle only because it is the order of the day. Functions, value system of men and women are overlapping and definitely the border between sexes is getting blurred. At one point women were the torchbearers of beauty; now it is men. But at the same time, let’s not forget that despite all the physical and mental changes, a man will always remain a man. That can never change,” he quips.
Women are certainly not complaining about having their beefcakes replaced with, well, something a little less tough to chew on. According to designer and socialite Malini Ramani: “It’s fantastic. Finally men can be what they want to be. Rules, traditions, restrictions have been created by society and it’s a social change that we are talking about. So why should it feel so strange? We can no longer live with the same certitudes that our parents did, and we have to mould ourselves according to the changes around us. Personally, I have no problems being with a man who is more aware of his well-being and makes an effort to look attractive. After all, who wants to be seen with a scruffy-looking individual?”
