Are the pop stars who appear being dumb really smarter than their audience?
Spears' ignorance of John Lennon's widow led to media mockery; Hilton, "The Simple Life" star, was accused of being simpleminded; and Jessica's apparent cluelessness (she thought Chicken of the Sea tuna was actually chicken and believed Buffalo wings were made of buffalo meat) even led some to speculate that she might be illiterate.
'It' Girls Work Hard at Playing Dumb

it reminds me of the research surrounding the world’s funniest joke. although a generalization, it was concluded that americans tended to lean toward jokes that make people feel inferior. so i suppose that may attribute - in some small way - to the vast success of these “dumb” blondes:
sure, they are mega-millionaires.
sure, they look fantastic. sure, they are famous.
but hey. i know what walmart and who yoko ono is.
wow.

Now you were about the last person I ever expected to see on this little spec in blogspace.
Claiming to have never heard of Wal-Mart is an old joke among the rich and wannabes (likely mostly the latter). I think Charles told me he’d never seen a Wal-Mart until he took one of his maids to one (those were very different days for the boy) but with enough of a smile to show it was just a joke.
