Even putting the Miss America contestants in speedos didn’t bring viewers back to the beauty pageant. Really who wants to watch this bit of sexist, ancient kitsch aside from the women who raise their daughters to become ‘beauty queens.’
Evidently 9,800,000 people did. A record low. Possibly the number of people in the US who can’t get cable TV?
“It’s time to look at Miss America for what it is — an event that is a symbol of a bygone era,” said Rutgers University professor Steven Miller, a TV expert. “In order to compete against more modern shows, it needs to have a complete makeover.”
Can you name a miss America winner from the last - oh, however many - years?
Most folks choose to miss Miss America

The event dates from a time that it was very hard to come up with an acceptable excuse to show scantily clad women on TV. Now it seems laughably tame. The show and the contestants project so much phoniness that it makes the Victoria’s Secret show seem comparatively honorable (though still mighty silly).
