Conservative Italian Silvio Berlusconi may finally be divorced by his wife of many years, actress Veronica Lario. In part because (he says):
… she wrongly believed that he had planned to back three young showgirls as candidates for the European elections.
“We’re talking about three talented girls out of 72 candidates,” Berlusconi told Corriere. “And what’s wrong if they are also cute?”

But - of course - we expect candidates for political office to be honorable, capable, independent and hardworking.
Except we don’t.
In this cynical age we know that office holders are chosen because of their wealth, useful affiliations, influence.
Far better they be chosen because they are pretty.
